Solid Ground is a peer support community for those concerned about the imposition of authoritarian ideologies in their workplace, university, school or community, and the impact that these ideologies have had or are having on their relationships.
Three colleagues and I began this community in January 2023 in order to help bridge the loneliness, isolation, and alienation so many were experiencing as a result of political and cultural polarization trends, from Covid mandates, to “Social Justice,” DEI, gender ideology, and more. We offer several drop-in groups each week. These are synchronous online meetings where members meet face-to-face to discuss challenges, concerns, and successes, as well as thoughts on world events and how their work, school, and relationships have been impacted.
We do not seek to create a “bubble” where we all agree on every issue. Diverse opinions are welcomed (Love Trump? Fine. Can’t stand him? Also fine.). Debate is discouraged, but mature discussion about divergent ideas is encouraged. We do not offer legal advice or psychotherapy in our peer support groups.
We also offer a bi-weekly consult group exclusively for counselors and life coaches. This is an informal space for case consultation and collegial discussion, and is not a replacement for clinical supervision.
When we launched this community offering, we also began a weekly livestream as a way to promote both the project and a spirit of friendly discussion and exploration about cultural issues that are currently so divisive. We often have a guest join the conversation to offer a unique perspective. You can catch the livestream each Monday at 10am Pacific/1pm Eastern on my YouTube channel: @theradicalcenter. We are live for one hour, and for a second hour immediately following the stream we invite Solid Ground members to join us and continue the discussion off the record.
